End of Summer Update

Hey Everyone,

I know it's been a while.  Actually my last post was dated back in July!

They say that summer is probably one of the more laid back seasons, but for me, I find that the summer months are the busiest!

I don't take much time off during the summer, that's because everyone else tends to take time off, so I'm the go to girl to fill in.  Which I really don't mind.  I get to do a lot at work!

Besides work, I have been able to spends some time with some of my greatest friends and family.

Here are some of my highlights of the summer!

We had our annual Family Reunion Ribfest which I had mentioned early in the summer.

There were so many great ribs!!  Everyone did a great job and it was great seeing everyone.  Unfortunately my ribs, came as first runner up.  Next year, I will take home the trophy!  Next year.

Another highlight of the summer was going to one of my favourite concerts, not once, but twice.   It should be dubbed as the best boy band combination ever.  N-K-O-T-B-S-B!!!  That's right, that's the New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys coming together on one stage for one fantastic tour!  The concerts were so much fun, I will have to save all the details for another blog posts for later.

NKOTBSB Concert June 2011- Toronto

NKOTBSB Concert August 2011- Hamilton
One of my biggest highlights was to meet Jordan Knight!  One of the perks to my job!  Picture to come at later post!

This summer was not all about concerts, we got to hang out and chill at the cottage.  My boyfriend's parents have a trailer outside of Trenton and it's always great to go out there and relax.  The water is just great and we pretty much lucked out with the weather the both times that we were up there.  The first time it was just my boyfriend and I.
What a beautiful view.

Water was a little chilly.

The 2nd time we went was in August and we went with 2 of our close friends.  It was also a great weekend.  The water on the lake was absolutely amazing.  We went for some great tour around the wineries in Prince Edward County.  We went boating, roasted marshmallows by the campfire and even went for an evening swim in the lake.  Which was pretty scary!

Ending the day of wineries at Harwood Estates.

Dipping my feet in the lake.

On the boat!

Dancing in the lake!

Posing by the lake after a great, refreshing swim.

To end the summer, there was the Burlington Ribfest.  Canada's largest Ribfest.  And let me say, that the Ribs were amazing!!!

So many people waiting for ribs.

Our first round of Ribs from Sticky Fingers, The Silver Bullet and Kentucky Smokehouse.

One of the Rib stands that we went to.

Overall....a great summer indeed!!!

Brand New Season of Big Brother

This is one of the most exciting times of the season!  A brand new Big Brother is about to begin.

For those that know me, this is one of my favourite reality shows!  I love it so much, that I want to audition for it, but they won't take me cause I'm Canadian!!!  Hey CBS, if you are reading this, please let me audition for the next Big Brother....pretty please?

Big Brother is heading into their 13th season.  And of course every year...."Expect the Unexpected!!!"

For those who don't know what Big Brother is all about, here is a little brief outline of how the show goes.

Big Brother is where a random group of strangers live together in a big house, isolated from the rest of the world.  They are constantly surrounded by cameras and microphones and can not contact anyone outside of the house.    There are about 52 cameras and microphones following their every move 24/7.  The show is hosted by the beautiful Julie Chen.

Each week, there are different competitions.  Here is a list of the competitions that you will see and what they are:
- "Head of Household".  The entire house competes in this competition.  The winner of "Head of Household" is awarded a nice private bedroom, letters from family members and some of their favourite items.  The "Head of Household" also nominates 2 members of the house to be eliminated.  They will not be able to compete in the next "Head of Household"

- "Power of Veto"  This usually occurs after the "Head of Household" nominates 2 members to be evicted.  From there, normally about 6 people participate in this competition.  The 2 nominees, the head of household and 3 others.  Their names are drawn out of a bag.  If one of the nominees wins the "Veto" competition, they could take themselves off the chopping block or save the other person that is up for elimination.  If one of the nominees is taken off the chopping block, then the "Head of Household" has to put someone else up for elimination.

The Power of Veto
- "Have/Have Not".  This competition is normally played by all.  They are normally spit into teams and the losers of the teams will have to either deal with eating only certain foods given to them or sleep in the most uncomfortable sleeping spaces or take cold showers.

- Other competitions include:  cash prizes, mystery boxes, trips and other items.

Here are this year's contestants:

Adam Poch- 39 years old- New Jersey
Cassi Colvin- 26 years old- Texas
Dominic Briones- 25 years old- California
Kalia Booker- 30 years old- Pennsylvania
Keith Henderson- 32 years old- Illinois
Lawon Exum- 39 years old- Illinois
Porsche Briggs- 23 years old- Florida
Shelly Moore- 41 years old- Ohio
The phrase that you will hear the most during Big Brother is "Expect the Unexpected"  And this year's twist is that a couple of dynamic duos will be making a return to the Big Brother household and get a chance to win the big prize.  Who will it be....

Brandon & Rachel- Season 12

Will & Mike "Boogie"- Season 2

Jessie & Natalie- Season 11

Evel Dick & Danielle- Season 8

Jeff & Jordan- Season 11

Hayden & Enzo- Season 12
Who will it be?  A poll has been added to the side, who will be coming back.  VOTE NOW!!!

You can catch Big Brother Thursday, Sunday & Wednesday Nights on CBS!!

Can't wait,  first episode airs tomorrow night at 9pm!!!

Cheers!!!

I heart John Hughes

I have always been a fan of John Hughes and his 80's & 90's movies.  He was a very successful director, producer and screenwriter.  If you were ever looking for a movie that you could relate to as a teenager, any of John Hughes movie would work.

Here's a little background of the infamous John Hughes:
- Was born in Lansing Michigan.
- After dropping out of University, he decided to sell his jokes to comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield.
- His first credited screenplay was Class Reunions
- His next screenplay National Lampoon's Vacation is what put him on the map.
- Directorial debut was for Sixteen Candles

Sadly John Hughes died in August 6, 2009 due to a heart attack.

Here's a list of all my favourite John Hughes movies:

Sixteen Candles (1984)
The Breakfast Club (1985)
Weird Science ( 1985)
Pretty in Pink (1986)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Some Kind of Wonderful (1987)
After watching Pretty in Pink the other day, I am itching to have myself a John Hughes marathon.  I always wonder what most of his characters look like today.  So here's some pictures of before and after:

Molly Ringwald- Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club

Jon Cryer a.k.a Duckie- Pretty in Pink

Andrew McCarthy a.k.a Blane McDonnagh- Pretty in Pink

James Spader a.k.a Steff- Pretty in Pink

Anthony Michael Hall - Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, Weird Science

Michael Schoeffling (a.k.a Jake Ryan in Sixteen Candle)
- can't seem to find a recent picture of him.

Gedde Watanabe a.k.a. Long Duk Dong- Sixteen Candles

Judd Nelson a.k.a Bender- Breakfast Club

Ally Sheedy a.k.a Allison Reynolds- Breakfast Club

Emilio Estevez a.k.a Andrew Clark- Breakfast Club
Kelly LeBroc a.k.a Lisa- Weird Science
Matthew Broderick a.k.a Ferris Bueller- Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Alan Ruck a.k.a Cameron Frye- Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Mia Sara a.k.a Sloane Peterson- Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Eric Stoltz a.k.a Keith Nelson- Some Kind of Wonderful

Mary Stuart Masterson a.k.a Watts- Some Kind of Wonderful

Lea Thompson a.k.a Amanda Jones- Some Kind of Wonderful
As you can tell, a lot of them haven't changed much, just aged.  So after this blog my question of the week is.... what is your favourite John Hughes' movie?  Take the poll on the side of the page.

Talk to you soon!

Cheers!!

Getting ready for Ribfest 2011

So my boyfriend's family has a huge family reunion every year!  This is the time of the year that the whole family is able to come out and visit.

Now that's a pretty huge family.  Here's the breakdown.  It all started with the Collin's children...

From left to right:  Dennis, Jack, Sandra, Trish, Mark & Eileen

Then they all get married and here's the picture with their spouses.

Sheila, Carol, Rod, John, Mary Jo & Paul

Everyone went on to have children, and their children went on to have children.

The Collins
The Collins minus Andrew & Kathryn
The Campbells minus Kate, Daniel & Milena
The Stendzis
The Collins
They Hussey minus Cael
I thought I had a huge family but this is a huge family.  These family reunions are always so much fun.

During the family reunion, we also have a little competition and make it a rib-fest.  The idea is to have every household make ribs for everyone to try.  The catch is, that the sauce and rubs have to be homemade.

The winner of the best ribs gets to take home the pig trophy.  Last year's winner was Annie.  She got to take home the pig.

Every year, the competition gets stiffer and stiffer.  Everyone starts to think of the next recipe that they want to do in order to win the trophy.  Tim and I have been working hard and have tried many, many recipes.  After about 7 different recipes, I think we may have found it.

Here's what the ribs looked like before...

Before

Here's what they look like after...

After
All I can tell you is that the ribs are really good.  My boyfriend approves so they must be good.  Can't give you the recipe just yet, cause the competition isn't until next week and I wouldn't want my recipe out there for the family to see!  Haha!  Once next weekend is over, I'll be sure to post the recipe for you all to try!

Cheers!
